Co-founder of Pendulum, Heather Bakken is a respected journalist who has worked domestically and internationally as a reporter, producer and publisher.
Known for excellence in media relations counsel and event facilitation, she is also a certified digital communications strategist who is delighted to impart her knowledge and expertise for clients.
Heather has worked on strategic initiatives and municipal election coverage with the Ottawa Board of Trade. As a career journalist and broadcaster, she was an anchor at NewsWorld International and has worked on both sides of the camera for CBC News in Toronto, Winnipeg and Regina. In private media she was the Executive Publisher of two political news publications: iPolitics and Queen’s Park Briefing, where she expanded their respective scope and business lines.
Committed to community empowerment, Heather founded the Ottawa Debating Society where she promotes active, logical and respectful engagement in the exchange of policy ideas. She served as a two-term president of the Canadian Club of Ottawa and remains on the board of directors. She also serves on the executive of the Rideau Club and chairs the governance committee. And she is President of World Press Freedom Canada -- an intersection of her passion for human rights and the love of her lifelong vocation.
Born and raised in Toronto, Heather has lived and worked in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Regina, and Ottawa, and has engaged in public speaking across the country.
